First Haircut
Submitted by Debby on Sun, 07/26/2009 - 7:29pmMichael received his first haircut today. His grandma was the one who took up that task. He wasn't really sure what was going on and why grandma was messing with him. He didn't cry he was just fidgety like all kids are at that age. Here are some pictures of the event. We saved a lock for his memory box.
Another Riley visit
Submitted by Debby on Fri, 07/24/2009 - 5:14pmHad to go back to Riley yesterday. Michael's exit site ended up infected again. He was already on antibiotics but all of a sudden it started looking really bad. No peritonitis thank goodness. Some cultures were done but we don't know the results yet. Will keep you posted as they come through.
Michael was tearing up the place. He was all over and running everywhere. You would never know he was battling an infection.
Anyway we found out we have a booth at the Niles Apple Festival October,1 and Michael's grendparents are having a benefit in the Upper Penninsula of MIchigan. We will have details in the next week or two. Also we are going to be at the Celtic Festival in August.
See you soon!!!
Another busy weekend.
Submitted by Debby on Sun, 07/19/2009 - 8:56pmI have decided a long time ago that weekends go way too fast. I spent a lot of time this weekend doing laundry, housework and some crafty things. My sister, niece and nephew are helping me get some craft stuff made up for the Niles Apple Festival. We sent a letter out last week for a charitable donation of a booth so we can sell some stuff. I painted up wooden ornaments and my sister is making bookmarks and laniards. We hope we can get a booth and spread the word.
Our date for the transplant coordinator was changed to the 23rd because of scheduling conflicts. Not so bad, looking forward to doing this. If we could do it tomorrow I would be there with kidney in hand. Well, not literally.
Having First Steps come over tomorrow to re-evaluate Michael. He had them before because of some eating issues. Now his doctor at Riley thinks he may have a speech delay. I don't think so but Ted and I decided it wouldn't hurt to get the eval.
Riley visit 7/14/09
Submitted by Debby on Tue, 07/14/2009 - 7:47pmWent to Riley today for Michael's clinic visit. All went well. His labs looked really good, well as good as his usually do. His exit site was a little red so he was put on antibiotics to clear that up. He has been crying lately when his dressing was being changed and it was getting pretty red and raw. It's always a long difficult trip for Michael. He gets pretty tired and cranky all cooped up in his car seat. I had bought a portable DVD player with some money I won at work and it was a blessing. Put on a Spongebob DVD and this boy is a happy camper.
Good news!! Our next visit is August 13th and we meet with the transplant coordinator. Yay!!!!
He started to get a little cranky at dinner and had a hard time winding down tonight. He got a little fussy so after I hooked him up to the cycler I held him in the rocker. After about 20 minutes he fell asleep in my arms.
Night night sweet boy. Now it's time to get Sara to bed.
4th of July
Submitted by Debby on Sun, 07/05/2009 - 8:11pmWe had a great time on the 4th. Not sure how much Michael enjoyed the fireworks. We had some friends over and had a little display in our yard. I think he was more startled at the noise than anything. He seemed to like the pretty colors but he buried his head in my shoulder with the big bangs.
He is becoming quite the resourceful fellow as you can see here.
He decided to get his bottle from his crib and drink it from there. After he was in his crib he was drinking it with no hands. He certainly is something else. He keeps us hopping. A very busy little boy.
Some more pictures of him goofing around:
Night time
Submitted by Debby on Fri, 07/03/2009 - 6:06pmThe other night Michael did the cutest thing. It was about 8:30 and he was just walking around in his sleeper drinking his bottle when he came into the kitchen and grabbed me by one finger. He then proceeded to guide me to his bedroom. It wasn't 10 minutes later that he was sound asleep.
He just amazes us every day. He doesn't talk much, he does a lot of babbling. Then every so often he will blurt out a word or two crystal clear. Then he goes back to babbling. Only he knows what he is saying. And do you think we could get him to repeat it, nope. Oh well.
He is getting quite the personality, too. He has always been easy going, however lately he is becoming very forceful in what he wants. Not too many temper tantrums, yet. But he does know what he wants and he lets us know.
Simeri's fundraiser
Submitted by Debby on Wed, 06/24/2009 - 8:14pmOur first fundraiser was a big success. The generosity of people astounded us. We don't have a total of how much money was raised but we do know we owe a lot of thanks to everyone involved. For a start the McCaffrey's for giving us this opportunity, for the Parrot Heads of
Slip and slide
Submitted by Debby on Tue, 06/23/2009 - 8:20amWell I bought a slip and slide for Sara Sunday and she had a blast with it and so did Michael. He just loves the water. Unfortunately for him because of the tubes he can't be submerged. That doesn't mean he can't get wet! The slip and slide was a big hit with both of them. Michael ended up drinking the water and got soaking wet. It was great fun on a hot day. My husband found out he is not as young as he used to be and also tried it. Too bad I didn't get a picture of THAT. It was too funny.
Hugs and kisses
Submitted by Debby on Tue, 06/16/2009 - 9:19pmMichael has always been a very happy little boy. Today was no exception, as I was changing his diaper he reached up grabbed each side of my face with his chubby little hands pulled it down and planted a big kiss on me. He is such a loving little boy. Always kissing us and blowing raspberries on any exposed skin. Nothing is off limits. You will be just sitting on the couch and here comes a raspberry on your leg or your arm. He grabs my arm every time I change his diaper and blows on it. His favorite is if I am playing on the floor with him he likes to blow on my belly. He thinks it's hysterical that he can make mommy laugh. He soon gets his sister to join in and now I have two raspberry blowing kids ganging up on me. Of coarse all is fair, I have to get them back. It's a lot of fun.
Temper
Submitted by Debby on Mon, 06/15/2009 - 5:55pmThese two pictures are of Michael in his chair. He had gotten it down from the table and got himself stuck in it. You can't see it but his right foot is under him and he couldn't get out of the chair.
Now he is mad because he coudn't get out. Mommy had to rescue him.
