Strawberry shortcake
Submitted by Debby on Mon, 06/15/2009 - 5:47pmWell here is Michael with strawberry shortcake all over himself, and his hair.
Weekend fun
Submitted by Debby on Sun, 06/14/2009 - 7:05pmMichael had a great weekend. He just loves to play outside. Typical boy though. Getting into everything and getting dirty. He even had some strawberry shortcake which he loved and so did his hair. Why is it that kids love to rub everything into their hair? I do have a picture of it and I will post it in the photo album in a day or two. Still having a little trouble with the camera. So much for technology right?
We do have a fundraiser coming up. In memory of Bridget McCaffrey. Her parents had this set up before she passed away and wanted to give it to Michael. We can't thank them enough for their generosity. It is at Simeri's in South Bend June 23 at 6:30. Hope you guys can make it.
Riley visit
Submitted by Debby on Thu, 06/11/2009 - 8:45pmThank goodness we didn't have to stay at Riley this time. Michael went for his usual monthly visit and all went well. Just a couple of med changes and that was it. His blood work came back alright. We are getting really close to transplant. Setting up an appointment with the transplant coordinator hopefully at our next office visit July 14th. If all goes well Michael just has to gain 2 lbs and he is transplant ready. Can't wait.
A moment of silence
Submitted by Debby on Tue, 06/09/2009 - 5:53pmJust heard today of Bridget's death. Please, wherever you are just give one moment of silence for that beautiful little girl and her parents.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you Bridget, Dave and Kim. So sorry to hear of their loss.
Another week
Submitted by Debby on Fri, 06/05/2009 - 6:01pmHere we are on Friday, another week gone. This one was a fairly good week. No major problems. Michael is growing like a weed. Walking and talking. The coin boxes are doing well. Thank you to all who donated and support us. We can't do it without you. Trying to get more pictures up on the photo album but I am having trouble with our camera. Hopefully my hubby can fix it.
Here is Michael playing in a box.
Thank goodness it's almost over.
Submitted by Debby on Sat, 05/30/2009 - 12:58pmI talked to the mom of Bridget whom I met down at Riley. Bridget also needs a kidney tansplant. Kim commented on the incredibly stressful month we had. I couldn't agree more. On a lighter note for Memorial day we all went to Hesston steam museum. We had an awesome time. Sara had been on trains before but this was Michael's first time. He had a blast.
Also we were very happy with the article in the Tribune. Thank you Ashley.

Interview
Submitted by Debby on Wed, 05/27/2009 - 7:40pmSorry this is a little out of sequence. This one is back to Tuesday afternoon.
Had a very sweet reporter named Ashley from the South Bend Tribune come along with her camera man James to do an interview with us. She asked about our day to day lives and of upcoming fundraising. She also asked how Sara handles all of this. I think she is as resilient as Michael is. Being only 4 Sara understands a lot. All the while Michael was cheezing for the camera.
I think it went fairly well, I was a little nervous, I had never done an interview b efore. I stammered a little bit on some of the topics. I did mention how fortunate I am to have such a wonderful little boy. With his happiness and sweet disposition all of this makes it all worth it. I say to myself "It could be worse" I could have lost him and I would never have known the sweet boy I have now.
When it rains it pours
Submitted by Debby on Wed, 05/27/2009 - 7:32pmJust hooked up Michael to his cycler Tuesday night and noticed he was soaking wet and water on the floor. Come to find out it was dialysate.
Michael's tenkoff (dialysis) catheter sprung a leak. So I packed up the diaper bag and Michael and headed down to Riley at 9pm at night. My thoughts were racing wondering if we would have another hospital stay and if he would end up having surgery to replace the catheter. Thank goodness no surgery. We arrived at midnight and was met by Tina (Michale's usual dialysis nurse) who had the pleasure of being on call that night.
Hospital stay
Submitted by Debby on Fri, 05/22/2009 - 8:32pmWell folks the dreaded happened. Michael ended up with peritonitis. Luckily we caught it before it got too bad, however it ended up being his second hospital stay in 4 weeks. The first time his calcium was critical then 2 weeks later ended up with peritonitis. Still trying to figure out how he ended up with it. While he was being treated for that his dialysis catheter ended up out of place and he had to have minor surgery to move it back. So for the next week we are adding antibiotics to his dialysate bags. Quite a nightmare this month. Guess it could have been worse. Glad it is almost over.
